The São Francisco cratonic root beneath the Neoproterozoic Brasilia belt (Brazil): Petrophysical data from kimberlite xenoliths

چکیده

Petrostructural analysis of 31 mantle xenoliths from three kimberlitic pipes intruding the Neoproterozoic Brasilia belt close to southwestern margin São Francisco craton (SFC) reveals microstructures and compositions similar those observed in cratonic roots worldwide. (1) The spinel-peridotites sampling upper section lithospheric have dominantly refractory modal mineral compositions, whereas garnet-peridotites deep more fertile consistent with (2) present a variation microstructure coarse-granular coarse-porphyroclastic, but olivine crystallographic preferred orientations (CPO). (3) fine-porphyroclastic microstructures. (4) Many coarse-porphyroclastic display Fe-enrichment pyroxenes, often associated Ti-enrichment pyroxenes or spinel occurrence phlogopite. (5) Equilibrium temperatures pressures are geotherm, equilibrium conditions require warmer geotherm. We interpret these observations as indicating that sample SFC root, which extends beneath belt, was modified by reactive transport magmas forming Alto Parnaiba Igneous Province (APIP) between 120 90 Ma. APIP magmatism resulted heterogeneous metasomatism, Fe enrichment, development peridotites garnet-peridotites, moderate heating root. These changes may produce decrease seismic velocities explaining local weak negative anomaly APIP, contrasts positive velocity anomalies characterizing root P-wave tomography models. However, magma did not erase CPO. Comparison average properties seismological data implies subhorizontal fossil flow directions non-negligible contribution teleseismic S-waves splitting.

Garnet Peridotite Xenoliths and Xenocrysts from the Monk Hill Kimberlite, South Australia: Insights into the Lithospheric Mantle beneath the Adelaide Fold Belt

A total of 73 peridotitic mantle xenoliths and a set of garnet and clinopyroxene xenocrysts from the recently discovered Jurassic Monk Hill kimberlite (UCO-H77A) in South Australia were used to constrain the thermal and compositional structure of the lithospheric mantle beneath the Adelaide Fold Belt, which is located at the southeastern margin of the Australian craton. The xenoliths contain mo...

Ultra-depleted, shallow cratonic mantle beneath West Greenland: dunitic xenoliths from Ubekendt Ejland

Dunitic xenoliths from late Palaeogene, alkaline basalt flows on Ubekendt Ejland, West Greenland contain olivine with 100 · Mg/(Mg + Fe), or Mg#, between 92.0 and 93.7. Orthopyroxene has very low Al2O3 and CaO contents (0.024–1.639 and 0.062–0.275 wt%, respectively). Spinel has 100 · Cr/ (Cr + Al), or Cr#, between 46.98 and 95.67. Clinopyroxene is absent. The osmium isotopic composition of oliv...

Metasomatized Kyanite-eclogites xenoliths from a southern Indian kimberlite

Kimberlites discovered so far in southern India are restricted to the Eastern Block of the Dharwar Craton and are distributed in three fields: Wajrakarur, Narayanpet, and Raipur. As summarized recently by Paul et al. (2006) and Patel et al. (2006), known kimberlite pipes in the Wajrakarur kimberlite field (WKF), which lies at the western margin of the Cuddapah Basin, occur in three clusters: Wa...

Upper mantle structure of the Saharan Metacraton

The 500,000 km Saharan Metacraton in northern Africa (metacraton refers to a craton that has been mobilized during an orogenic event but that is still recognisable through its rheological, geochronological and isotopic characteristics) is an Archean–Paleoproterozoic cratonic lithosphere that has been destabilized during the Neoproterozoic. It extends from the Arabian–Nubian Shield in the east t...

Helminth fauna parasitizing Pimelodus pohli (Actinopterygii: Pimelodidae) from the upper São Francisco River, Brazil.

The parasite fauna of catfish, Pimelodus pohli, from the São Francisco River Basin is presented. A total of 45 catfish from the upper São Francisco River (45°15'44″W 18°13'25″S), were examined from July 2009 to September 2011. Forty-three catfish (95.5%) were infected by at least one parasite species, with 885 parasite specimens being found, distributed across 17 species: Monogenea (Demidosperm...
